Luz Nuñez

With over 25 years of experience in human resources and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), Luz is a seasoned leader dedicated to creating inclusive, high-performing organizations. As the Founder and CEO of Aurora Consulting Services, Luz has built a reputation for developing HR policies, procedures, and training initiatives that support teams across the Hospitality, Non-Profit, Healthcare, and Higher Education sectors.

Through her consulting work and leadership, Luz continues to support organizations in creating environments where diversity, equity, and inclusion thrive, helping leaders navigate challenges and foster positive, sustainable change.

Luz’s career has been marked by her impactful leadership in DEI, most notably as the former Director of DEI at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where she played a key role in establishing the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. In 2023, Luz returned to her hometown to join the University of California, San Diego as part of the HR Strategy and Policy team. There, she continues to advise university leaders at all levels on addressing complex employee relations challenges with a focus on cultural humility and equity.

Holding a master’s degree in human resources management, Luz applies research-based best practices to improve team engagement and drive business outcomes. She is also a SHRM-SCP certified professional and has earned a DEI Certification from eCornell. Luz is committed to lifelong learning and is a Fellow of the Chicano Federation Leadership Training Institute and a member of Hispañas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE), an organization dedicated to supporting and developing Latinas as civic leaders, advocates for policy changes that champion equity for Latinas, and educates the public on the experiences and contributions of Latinas to our economy and society.

Outside of her professional work, Luz is passionate about community service and mentoring. She volunteers as a Hermanitas Mentor with Mana de San Diego and serves on the Leadership Team Committee. Additionally, Luz is a member of the Board of Directors for Outdoor Outreach, a non-profit that introduces underserved youth to outdoor sports and activities while promoting environmental sustainability. Her deep commitment to supporting youth, leadership development, and community empowerment shapes her approach to leadership, conflict resolution, and organizational development, always with a culturally informed lens.

HOBBIES & INTERESTS

Luz is a proud single mom of 31 years, and still enjoys spending time with her son at movies and Comic-Con – a tradition that started 20 years ago! She enjoys concerts, salsa classes, and caring for Tres, their dog, and third family member in the home.
